Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan form a dynamic detective duo in Tom George’s enjoyably satirical take on the classic whodunit, like a period version of Rian Johnson’s smash hit Knives Out. In 1950s London, plans for a film version of a successful play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When a world-weary inspector (Rockwell) and an eager rookie constable (Ronan, who can’t stop excitedly “jumping to conclusions”) take on the case, they find themselves thrown into a puzzling mystery in the glamorous, sordid world of underground theatre, and come to realise they’re investigating this heinous crime at their own peril. Rockwell and Ronan lead a stellar cast including Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson and David Oyelowo in what promises to be a delightfully realised, witty and enigmatic Agatha Christie-esque treat.
