Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick) star as Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor – who in 2017, broke the incendiary news of producer Harvey Weinstein’s serial sexual predations – in Maria Schrader’s searing She Said.
Depicting Twohey, Kantor and their editors (played by Patricia Clarkson and Andre Braugher) as they try to persuade Weinstein’s victims (some played by Jennifer Ehle and Samantha Morton) to go on record and dig into the toxic layers of silence and complicity surrounding him, it highlights the courage and fortitude of the women who came forward and the profound experience of writing an incredibly disturbing, high pressure, high stakes story.
Like Spotlight and All the President’s Men, She Said is an engrossing testament to the incalculable importance of investigative journalism, demonstrating Twohey and Kantor’s process as they worked to shatter decades of silence around sexual assault in Hollywood; in the process propelling the #MeToo movement and instigating a reckoning of the system that enabled Weinstein for so long.
